Pottery Breaks
Pottery breaks at Valley View are a great way to combine a relaxing break near the beautiful Jurassic Coast near Lyme Regis and to learn a new and fun skill.
Hand Built Pottery with Penny Ireland
Whether you’re a beginner or a happy hobby potter, have fun trying techniques including, slab building, tile making, decorating with textures, slips, glazes and sprigs. As our resident potter, Penny, is mainly a hand builder, we will concentrate on slab techniques to create various functional and decorative pieces.
Our pottery breaks include demonstrations of techniques using a slip mould, coiling, basic slab building and seasonal project ideas are given regularly, whilst encouraging you to work on your own projects and interests. Practical help and support is provided individually throughout the course. An optional follow-up day looking at decorative techniques and preparing your own pieces for a glaze firing will also be available.
Classes are relaxed and friendly, and can be held over a 2 or 3 day period, or afternoons/evenings on dates to suit your requirements. Residents and non-residents are all welcome.
For residential courses, check that Penny and the Annexe or Barn are available on the dates you require. Please then book accommodation separately. The cost of the course: £45 for the first 2 hours and £20 per any extra hours. This is for a maximum of 2 people; £20 per extra person. This includes basic material. Firing, glazing and postage costs are extra.
On residential courses your work will be fired and glazed by Penny and sent to you if you wish.
This includes basic material, but firing, glazing and postage are extra.
Wheel Pottery Courses with Lucy Burns
In my classes you will be able to detach yourself from the world and get your hands dirty.
I will take you through clay preparation, basic tool knowledge, speed of wheel and most importantly… throwing! If you are returning after one day, we can explore the rest of the process such as turning, adding handles and decorating, so it can be fired and yours to keep!
Classes are aimed at all levels, although hand-building classes prior to the wheel will help with an understanding of working with clay.
My classes are all 1-on-1, as I want to get the most out of the time we have together. Please let me know in advance if you have any artistic goals.
Always remember “Every artist was first an amateur”.
Costs:
•1-day course (3 hours) – £75
•2-day course (does not have to be consecutive) 3 hours per day – £140
•Additional requested hours – £25 per hour
*this includes basic materials and clay. Glazing, firing and postage additional small costs*
